I have a 2004 f250 6.0 diesel and the cooling system is full of motor oil (pushed all the coolant out). It has a 2003 engine in it as this is it's 4th engine. reading the forum i see it could be the erg cooler, oil cooler or head gasket. Where do I start?
thank you!! It's been parked for over a year. I just stare at it. After that many engines I'd didn't want to put another dime in it but I'm "slowly" getting over that.
thanks. yep, shows you the faith i HAD in the ford motor company. I put 500k miles on the '95 7.3 DI PS that I'm still driving. The 6.0 had 83k on it when the tip of one injector broke off went thru the valve and top of the piston. Ford replace that engine. at 38k on that engine, it came apart and blew 2 holes in the lower block you could stick you fist in. I put the next one in at my cost and one of the cylinders filled up with D2. it didn't like that. I replaced that one and now the cooling system's full of motor oil. I don't abuse these trucks. they cost to much. all the maintenance was current and all the failures were under no load, highway speed "around" 2300 rpm. I'm gonna fix this one and give it to someone. No more ford diesels.
Wow! Talk about some bad MoJo. I know some folks have had little to no trouble with them...while others just can't seem to catch a break. Hate to hear you're hanging up Ford Diesel hat...or so to speak.

just change the oil cooler and flush the coolant system. pretty easy job. id keep it if i were you sounds like this engine is good. oil coolers go bad. mine did. its not fun flushing that stuff outta there but cheaper than a new truck
Been out of circ for awhile. Yes, after each new motor was installed. Never did anything fancy, trouble shoot and made sure it ran within OEM guidelines. I'm fix'in to roll up my sleeves and dive into the oil cooler. thanks
Thanks. But no performance enhancing. I finally got it apart and am "close" to going back together. The last engine that was put in it is a used 2003 6.0 (the truck's an 04) and when I took the EGR cooler off I noticed it was made by Garrett (sp?) does anyone know if Garrett is OEM or is this possibly a replacement from OEM? Yes, I know I'm slow but I'm old to. thanks!
I feel ya on the "old and slow" part. You got some loonng arms too! Been Rollin up those sleeves since Aug. LOL just had to kid ya a little, good luck on the truck!
