TBC Gain Settings

How much does weight effect gain settings? I just installed a factory TBC to my 10 F150, if I find a setting, let say 6.0 on an empty car hauler will that be OK after it is loaded or should I be changing setting?

Thanks

need higher gains usually with more wt.

Always check the gain when hooking up and when changing load configurations.

Best way to see how you are is to load the trailer, get up to aprox 25 mph and try it. Do this where you have plenty of room to stop.

Adjust till you are confortable.

You want the truck and trailer to stop evenly. The truck should not stop the trailer and the trailer should not stop the truck. Every load could and will require a different setting. Very the setting till your feel the stop is nearly effortless....

Thanks, that is what I figured. I was hoping someone who uses a car trailer could tell me the difference, like add 2 or 3 points more gain. I wanted to avoid having to set it with my new car on the back. Since it is done at a slow speed it should not be that big of deal, I hope.

set it about 5, then see.

Before you pull out use the manual lever to ensure the trailer brakes in fact are working.

When I have my trailer loaded and hooked up, I make an initial setting, drive 25 mph in a straight line and fully activate the manual brake lever.

If the trailer brakes lock up, I reduce the setting until they no longer lock the brakes.

If the trailer brakes don't lock up, I increase the setting until they do and then back off until they don't.

This process has worked effectively for me.
