Steering Stabilizer Leaking oil

Hello, Last year I replaced my steering stabilizer, with a new stock one from Napa. Less then 7 months went by and it was leaking oil all over. So I then decided to upgrade to a Rancho single stabilizer, It has only been about 6 months, and when greasing up my tie rods, i notice that the Rancho is also leaking. I drive mostly on road, Stock suspention.

Am I just getting bad parts, or? I purchesed my Rancho online, so I need to find a local dealer to see if I can exchange this one. But what causes these to go bad so fast?

Thanks.

thats odd you had a Rancho one go bad, esp that fast..

i'd look to get it replaced before buying another one/brand first..

its unusual to have a quality unit like that go south quickly.. you dont have a bent mounting plate or something ?

The steering stabilizer is basically a shock absorber designed to be mounted sideways. I am on my fourth one (mostly through my fault off-roading). A decent stabilizer will run you a little more than a shock ($50 or so). I usually get told at the shop/store that they have one for about $30 and it is them really selling a regular shock with the same dimensions as your stabilizer. There is a chance that your "stabilizer" is really a less-expensive shock absorber and could be leaking because it is not designed to be mounted horizontally.

Just some food for thought.

Something is either bent where the stabilizer mounts as the OP mentioned, or you have it mounted incorrectly where either the piston rod slams into the barrel or over-extends the barrel of the shock causing seal failures. Make double sure neither of those conditions exist and you should be fine.

Hello, my mount isn't bent, and I made sure when I installed the Rancho that I had some room for movement. Before bolting it I turned the wheel all the way left and checked for travel, then all the way right and then checked for travel, so both ways it has some extra travel. I ordered the Rancho RS5406 RS5000 Series Steering Stabilizer at Amazon.
