On my way to work and whap, whap, whap........ tread peeled off the carcass. I knew those cooper tires were thrashed and weren't going to last much longer. Only needed them to go a few more weeks too. Looks like I'll be putting an order in for two more Mastercraft tires to match the front, like it or not.
Been there, done that. It did chew my rear fender well, and also slapped the side of the bed all the way to the back door. I was pulling a 27' travel trailer and had a motorcycle in the bed of the truck. The tire maintained the air though so I could get pulled over safely. What a trip!
The knuckle head before me used a D range tire!!!! Whats up with that?? Yes, I will be ordering an E range to suit the truck and it's load ability but the goof before me never even noticed that the tires were installed with low pressure valve stems. This type of stuff aggravates me too no end, almost as much as not being able to afford the proper tires that the truck needs.
The tread pulled a small chunk out of the fender well but you honestly can't tell with all the rust around it so there's no big lose there.
Found a spare tire that had never been on the ground for $60 in an E range and then found a spare steel rim for another $45 that I can put back under the truck when I get new rear tires. So in short truck is back on the road.
Nothing is really all that big a deal, just a huge pain in the neck and right at the same time as a cut in hours at work so no extra any thing till that changes.

Reason: spelling error. Oops
I am an ase mechanic at a tire shop, so I see that kind of thing alot. about 2 weaks ago, someone brought in his own tires for us to put on his 1 ton dodge. When the tire tech was mounting them I noticed that they were the wrong size and load range D. So I told the guest and all he said "I know but I don't care because I don't tow" so we made him sign a waiver stating he knew they were not right. About all you can do when business is slow, take what you can get. That is why I recomend going over the whole vehicle BEFORE you buy, you never know where the P.O. cheaped out.
I bought the truck knowing there was work to be done, no big deal and kind of fun when compared to making a truck payment. A few weeks after making a pretty decent deal on the truck, blamo! 32hr work weeks. This stuff is exactly why I got rid of the other truck with a payment! Might have to scrounge up tires but this one is totally paid for.
