I am looking at a 2001 Excursion V10. I have been doing some looking around here and was just wondering what are some common things I need to look for.
well i am looking at a couple of them one has a 140k on the clock. the other the one I really want if I can convence the guy to sell it. has just over 100k but has the 4.30 gears. they both seem to be maintained but nothing extra.

I have a posting that lists some things I have done to my 01 I got earlier this year. It will give you an idea of what to pay. I would say some of the main things to look for are ball joints, sway bar links, shocks, etc... these are pretty easy to just look at and see whether they are original or not (with the exception of the ball joints. Look to see if there are grease fitting on them, if they have zerks than they have been replaced.)
If its 4 wheel drive then check the 4x4 system. when i got mine it was all screwed up. hubs were frozen and wouldnt turn to lock. also had a vacuum leak in hub seal so it wouldnt auto engage. Just check it all and use it to negotiate the price. those hubs are expensive and if you had to pay someone to do hub seals is up there.
also get a scan tool and scan for codes. it all helps bring the price down.
good luck
