Ok, I'm tired of reading about MPG increases about what you should or shouldn't do to help it. People, we bought these trucks for what???? Tow, Push, Pull??? Or just because b/c it's the American Way. It's a V-10! That alone should say "Wow, guess I'll be given the foreigners a lot of my money". Spending money on mods or bolt on equipment to help you gain 1 or 2 mpg is a waste of your money and time. These mods generally help in performance (power/torque) not MPG. And usually when you do these mods you have your foot so far in the floor you can watch your fuel needle move!! If you want MPG savings, go buy a mini-truck with a 4 banger or just stay home and wash your Super Duty!!!! Thanks!
I'm with you Mark250. Don't complain about MPG if you're driving a V10. Just get out and drive!! I put in 32 gallons of gas last week...$50.00 +. The cashier sez she was glad she wasn't driving my truck. Hey, if you can afford the truck you better be able to afford the gas. Drive it like you stole it..enjoy...watch the looks of admiration..not the gas guage.

32 gallons? My wife is a stay-at-home mom who rarely drives the thing and we put double that a week into ours
I will admit - I care about mpg... that is why I drive a 20mpg $2800 *paid for* Toyota 4Runner on my daily commute of 80 miles round trip
I especially like the Power stroke vs V10 mileage debate... like 15-16 mpg in a oil burner is some great fuel efficient wonder!!! sheesh... f!#$& it and drive the economy needs our dollars... spend them, buy more gas/oil and feed the need...
If you think beating a supped up, 2500lb, four banger, rolling boom box is fun, think of the gallon of fuel it took to get to that next stop light! Hell makes you want to go find more of the little F@#$ers to whoop with 6800lbs of Ford Tough V10 SuperDuty Truck....yee haa, smell the exhaust!
Think I will add a bunch of nitro methane, a dose of NO, and see if I can eek a few extra MPG out of the 87 octane el cheepo fuel
Damn MarkF250 thank for the reality check!!!

I'm with you. I try to use the van for what it was made for-not carrying aroung only my narrow ***. I have the same feelings towards the yuppie trophy wives in their Excusions spilling coffee on their cell phones. NO reason they couldn't be in a SVT Focus even with their 3 rugrats strapped in and probably safer-certainly better for the road surface, foreign exchange and what's left of the environmnt. And I'm Republican!
Or maybe we should burn up all the oil and then we could really focus on alternative fuels or sit in our sailboats to commute until we figure out how to transport our bodies without killing everything in our wake.

Our third vehicle is a 30 MPG '00 Focus with the high-output engine, and I enjoy driving it a lot! I drive the trucks so much I almost forgot how much fun going onto a 4-wheel drift around a curve is. Very nimble and agile.

Well, that's the thing. Alternative fuels aren't going to happen by government fiat, only by the free market. There's biodiesel for the oil burners, synfuels and ethanol for the gassers but both cost more than the stuff we pump out of the ground. For now. There's more oil shale in Colorado alone and coal in Wyoming that could be converted into several Middle East's worth of oil, but it isn't going to happen until all the cheaper stuff is gone. Hydrogen won't happen until it's cost-effective. It's all about money, and these are the 'good old days' that future generations will envy on their twice-as-many- vehicle choked roads.
I have a 2002 Crew, short bed with an ARE cap. Haul a couple hundred pounds of parts and tools up and down I-75 on the west coast of Florida for Xerox. With the trucks balistic coeficient of nearly zero, I get about 13 - 14 mpg at 75mph. However, since I am paid hourly, I don't mind easing up when there are no emergencies.
Doing a round-trip from Bradenton to Naples (about 250 miles), I get in the slow lane and set cruise at 55mph. (Some folks are shocked to see I am not some 98 year old codger out for his daily cruise)
I watch the mileage hover around the 19.5 mark. I have seen 20.2 mpg a few times. The truck has 78,000+ miles, so I'd say it is just about broken in. I don't mind the extra time behind the windshield, and I save about $6 a day in gas.
I use Mobil 1 every 5000 miles and add 16 oz. of Militech every third oil change. Other than that and a K&N replacement filter, nothing special has been done.
Fingers are crossed. No problems with this truck so far.
Love this truck!

19.5? if your talking a PSD I can concur as I drove one from Lovell Maine to Boston last weekend and averaged 18.8 which is amazing to me. If you have a V-10 you need to get your nose away from the tailpipe because the only way I will ever see that with mine is to shut the engine off completely - and even then I can only hope to make 12mpg
I can't believe this thread is still running - funny stuff
Nope! It's da truth! I log every gallon of gas and figure out my mpg. I find the truck "computer" is not as accurate as I would like.
If you don't mind feeling like you are going in reverse, try 55mph.
I got the high mileage rear end - don't remember the ratio - and haven't done anything else. I also don't try to show'em at the light how fast my V-10 can get me down to the next light, either.
Life can be a bit boring, but it will give you some bragging rights as I now have.
OK I'll give you your bragging rights - my V10 has 1300 miles on it - I also log everything and have the 3.73 rear end. When I floor it all day I get 10 - when I ride it like an old lady I get 10 - when it's empty I get 10 - when I have a trailer I get 10 - would love to know what you guys feed those things because thats the best I've seen....
I just bought a V10 2002 Excursion limited with 21K miles. Picked it up on Thursday. Gotta say so far I'm very impressed with the entire package. I run a hot air balloon business and need to pull a trailer and carry a bunch of people.
We took it for a long ride today. I figured out that to get good mileage 1.) keep it rolling 2.) keep my foot out of all those ponies.
At it's worst I was getting 11.2 when I first picked it up. Filled it up and over the last 60 miles I was reading 15.3 and holding 60 on a high speed 2 lane thru the hills of southern NH.
I had to bring this one back up to the top. I'm tickled by some of the claims that are made regarding mileage, and some of the posts asking what it should be. It is what it is, and no one gets more than anybody else, assuming the same style of driving and proper vehicle tune.
I'm a fairly conservative driver, and keep my foot out of it most of the time. I know what I get for mileage, and it isn't what some of the claims are posted in these forums. If one person drove 10 V10 powered trucks, his mileage would be within a couple tenths on average between the lot.
