USAF 51

I went last monday to GA. to have a look at a 51 USAF F-1. He wanted 850 for it and i told him i needed to think about it. I tryed to call me back a few times to buy it but got no answer. That turn out to be a good thing cause today he called me and said he really needed to sale it and would take 500 . The bed and one rear fender is crap metal. I couldn't believe how good the doors and hood was. Cab corners will need to be replaced and floor will need some work. If i remember right it had extra leaf spring under it also. Plus a heater box as big as a 12 pack. I'm thinking thats a military issue . Has the flathead v8 even has a fan shroud. It all there and next friday it will be HERE. lol

What kind of oil filter cannister did it have? I just parted out a 51 USAF truck and it had a large cannister that bolted to the firewall and had MILITARY STANDARD FILTER on it. I haven't seen one like it and wondered if the military had put them in all of their trucks. It had a V8 in it but not when I got it.

So Fred, other then that you should be arrested for theft, what are your build plans? Every culture (hobby addiction) have their sub–culture and then the sub-cultures have sub-cultures and then counter-cultures (sharp stick in the eye) that eventually become so obscure that only the owner and one other person on Mars understands the significance (to them). I think it comes down to the “cool” factor, if a certain vehicle at a car show in a sea of shinny paint stands out because it is subtly different and “neat” (old word for the much overused awesome) just because it is the opposite of current trends.

Not so sure at all about the flatty and running gear, but IMO to “restore” this to its original unchanged weathered old (oxymoron) Air Force glory, body and cab wise, would be the ultimate sharp stick!

See what I mean by counter-culture, hot rod it back to original, what an concept !

stock

You lost me there OLD F1 . Thnk you were saying restore it back to a stock 51 or you will come down here and have me locked up for stealing it. LOL LOL LOL Yes man thats the plan . I been waiting for something with the flathead in it that hasn't been monkeyed with. Sure there is alot of history in the old truck. It has a id tag on the outside of the glovebox and the one that ford put on the inside. NOT going to rod it out !!!! Heck i got one of them. But glad you reminded me .

Master I don't know about that. Maybe Master baiter LOL But really i can't wait to get started on it. Sold one of my boats this weekend and going to use that money to get a ingersoil Rand compressor and my cuz gave me a blasting pot. May sound crazy but i love to sand blast. May have to break out the flood lights and work at night cause its already hot as hatties down here in FL.

No, No, no sand blasting, you have to leave it as it is, no new paint, original air force!
