New Here
I came across your site and it looks informative. I'm a retired GI and have had Ford pickups since 72. Currently I have a 2 wheel drive 1984 which has seen alot of travel and abuse, but it keeps on ticking. I had Ford put a "new" engine in it and it never had much power afterwards. I took it to a friend of mine and he said the timing mark was a 180 out and had to be timed by ear. Two other Ford dealers thought the other dealer stuck me-I called Ford but no help. Now that's off my chest :-).
I have a timber farm and it has a slope of 30 degrees at places. I was going to use my 1984 Ford but it won't haul timber up the slope. I bought my wife a 4 wheel drive automatic F150 year 2000 when I had a close call in the VA hospital.
Problem is I'll either convert my wife's truck into my work truck [15,000 lb. Ramsey winch and front hitch], which she doesn't like as she can't drive my standard. So I am thinking of buying a new Ford P/U 4 wheel drive for my work. Probably an extended cab with the 6 1/2 bed. Some have said that an automatic would be a better selection for what I want to do as it will have more traction because of an automatics slippage. But I love standards and hate how automatics jerk when you're starting on a steep slope. With my standard I don't have that problem.
But would an automatic be better for less slippage when starting out on a steep slope than a standard?
Thanks and good trucking,

I'd go with the auto even though I'm also a fan of standards to. Look over our tech forums and feel free to jump in and post questions in them. You will find more folks in them than this forum. You have a lot of great folks from your state already here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum188/
