If you have it, it's behind the rear passenger seat on the floor in a crew cab. I assume a similar location in a super cab or reg cab. It's a black plastic odd shaped thing. I would say that you could just turn up the music and locate it with your ears but the output of the factory sub is comical.
On a technical point only; the physical separation of the tweeter and mid on the front and rear doors does not lend itself to the best sound stage. Yes, one can get esoteric and insert delay etc., however, for the better sound stage it is best to keep them very close together. I replaced the fronts with Infinity Kappa duals and disconnected the tweeters in the A Columns. I now run only with the fronts on, (fader full to front) and it is a huge difference. Better tonally and more life like.
I am looking at upgrading the sub on a small budget but am a little confused with the factory sub. Why does it have 4 wires attached to the speaker? With that I am guessing I can not use the factory amp. I purchased a 6.5" Kicker 10CVT654 that was on sale for $50 thinking I could just swap the sub and have better bass. Any ideas on how to use the factory amp or what is a decent cheaper amp?
As you turn up the sound, you can tell the sub volume decreases, which is Fords way of saving the stereo so to speak.
It's pathetic in my opinion. Even getting a bigger amp to the factory door speakers (which is currently how mine is) makes a big difference. Adding the sub was just a bonus, but it would've been interesting to see how the factory sub performs with a "real" amp.
Here's my only complaint with this sound system...anytime I listen to music with my phone plugged in through the USB port I get a crackling or clicking sound through the two tweeters on the a pillar. I just had them replaced and it's still happening but only with my phone plugged in through the USB not with anything else. Anyone have any ideas on what's goin on??

Sounds to me like the tweeters aren't handling the sound. The compressed music coming via USB already struggles through those stock speakers and I noticed tons of static when I turned the volume up at all. The tweeters just turned to mush. Not sure if that is your problem but I'm pretty sure it was mine. I'm headed to pick up my truck in an hour where it has been getting all of the speakers and amps replaced in hopes to resolve that issue. I'll let you know how it turns out.
