I'm working on our service truck at work a F550 and it has me puzzled. It has a cold start issue. If plugged in it starts pretty good, if not - not so good even at 65* outside. Glow plugs are new and cycling, replaced the orings a month ago and did find bad ones.Problem persists. Hooked up the laptop w/ the AE and am getting good ICP readings on the oil pressure(up to 1700). The coolant temp is out of wack(250* on cold engine) so gonna change the sensor. Oil temp readings are good With ambient temps first thing in the morning and rise with engine warm up. The boss wouldn't let us replace the injectors only the orings at first. The other mechanic and I think that the injectors needed replaced with 281000 miles on them. It does have low hpop pressure codes but looks like the hpop has been replaced proir to our purchase(remanufactured label). No oil in the connectors on the ICP or IPR. Do I have to put an inline pressure gauge on the fuel line on the SDs or is there a place to measure it? Welcome all thoughts and advice thanks.
You need a gauge. There are two places on the fuel bowl to tap into, but you'll need an adapter, and I can never remember which fittings they are. One is pre-filter, the other is post (where most say to take the reading). Top driver-side is pre, lower passenger-side is post-filter.
Coolant temps are not monitored by the PCM on auto-trucks, so you can ignore that.

do the 550s have the same pos junk mixer valve in the tank on the 250 and 350 not sure ? if they do and you have fuel pressure problems even if it is the pump i would drop the tank and get rid of it. search hutch mod.
If it starts better when plugged in.. it sounds to me oil related.. see if your boss would switch to rotella T 5w40 syn.. costs more but you can extend the oil changes.. less down time..
Syn will help your engine start quicker, and it will run quieter..
Pull the valve covers after it sits overnight and is not plugged in. Crank the engine and watch for oil discharge from each injector. Sounds like worn injectors to me. The good ones will be spitting oil, the bad ones won't.
Plug it in for a little and try again and when it starts you'll see more injectors spitting oil. After it warms up, all of them will be spitting oil.
