AOD TV Cable

1988 E150 302 AOD EFI

I've been reading a lot about this adjustment but im not going to attempt it until I'm clear. Be sure you know that adjusting this incorrectly can burn up the trans real quick. Hopefully It will help prevent that.

The Haynes Ford Full-Size Van 69-91 Manual, the Haynes Ford Automatic Transmission Overhaul Manual, and the Chilton Ford Pick-ups and Broncos 87-96 Manual all refer to the method toward the bottom of this thread: AOD shifting too soon and slippig a little too. - F150online Forums

Another Method is this one by BadShoe Productions: YouTube - BadShoeProductions's Channel

Also this one (Lift-tab type): Ford AOD Transmission

There is also testing with a pressure guage, which I am also not sure about.

Ford Automatic Transmission Overhaul manual says normal oil pressure (at normal operating temp.) should be as follows:

Engine idling-brakes applied-
Neutral - 55 to 65 psi
OD, Drive or 1st - 55 to 65 psi
Reverse- 75 to 90 psi

Then there is this one that goes with the Badshoe method: TV Linkage Adjustment & Retrofit Page - Baumann Electronic Controls, LLC

Any help to clarify any of this will be much appreciated. I could always take it to a trans shop but what would I be learning from that? Hope this helps some one else with these questions?

Also, how does adjusting the cable (looser or tighter) effect the pressure?

More Confusion

Transmission Oil Pressure Test Port

After more research, which port is the correct one to use? The Ford manuals all say and show pictures of the 7/16" bolt located on the drivers side of the trans behind the TV cable lever idle stop position. This port gives me the readings refereed to in those manuals as follows:

Ford Automatic Transmission Overhaul manual says normal oil pressure (at normal operating temp.) should be as follows:

Engine idling-brakes applied-
Neutral - 55 to 65 psi mine is 64psi
OD, Drive or 1st - 55 to 65 psi mine is 62psi
Reverse- 75 to 90 psi mine is 89psi All on higher side of normal

Now in these instructions: TV Linkage Adjustment & Retrofit Page - Baumann Electronic Controls, LLC
and this video: YouTube - AOD Setting
They are referring to a bolt on the passenger side.

Are there a high and low ports? There is no way i'm going to get a reading of 0psi at idle when the manual states 55 to 65 psi at Neutral.

This confusing and any clearing it up will be great. Thanks
