Split an Excursion in half to make it BulletProof

After 100,000 miles, my dads 6.0 Excusion is now suffering from the dreaded EGR problem. Sooo, we loaded it on a trailer and hauled it to Phoenix to meet our new friends at BulletProofDiesel.

BulletProof has since split it in half as they say it's much easier to work on the engine this way. It only takes the mechanic two hours to perform the split before starting the open heart surgery.

more pics in a bit...

I know that's a massive engine but you can't really fathom how massive until your standing next to it.

This fan must have come from a small wind tunnel somewhere...

Wow! That'd make for much easier work! Only 2 hours to get them separated? Wonder if there is a write up or checklist of stuff to disconnect prior to separating the cab...?

What all is your Dad doing to the engine? EGR cooler and Oil cooler? Going to stud the engine while in there?

Long tubes are a HUGE PITA on a Gen 2 L.

Hee-Youuuuuuuge!

To the OP, hit that underside body rust while it's lifted!

Hmmm....I wonder if you could save enough money doing this job yourself to afford to purchase a 10,000 lb 2-Post Lift...

"Gee honey, I saved money by buying this thing!"

Hmmm, I couldn't remember so I had to call him and find out...
He says BulletProof is doing a Stage III upgrade. This consists of a new modified EGR cooler, a new modified oil cooler, new bypass oil filter that filters down to 10 microns, new heads with Stellite valve seats and new head studs. Out the door should be about $8K.
You can find a lot more info in their Q's and facts section as well as a couple magazine articles on their site.

If your garage ceilings are high enough, go for it. 2 post lifts can be had pretty cheap.

What kind of warranty do they offer, TrainNut?

On the other hand...$8K to repair and improve a vehicle that cannot be replaced by anything on the market...hmmm.
