In my grandmas barn she has a ford truck that we think is somewhere between a 1945-47. We haven't been able to find out exactly what year though. I am looking to buy the truck from her this summer. As of now it has no engine or trans and needs other items to run. I have included pictures of it if that would help on what year and what its worth. The "story" of it is my grandpa was in the middle of restoring this truck and a 1970 boss 302 when he died of a heartattack. The mustang has since been restored. Thanks for any info and help u guys can give me.
Do you have the original engine and transmission? How much rust is hiding under red paint and bondo? How straight is the bed? What condition are the fenders and running boards in (again with the rust and bondo too)? This makes a BIG difference.
i do not believe that it has the original motor and trans mission. there is not rust under the paint and bondo. the bed is straight, he was one of the best and most well know auto repairer in my area. the running boards and fenders are in really rough shape, lots of dents. It is only painted from the cab forward. also there is what i can remember as a 30th anniversary craftsmen(i believe) tool box.
Family prices are always going to be different than what they are if being sold to strangers. I bought my 47 1 ton from my father in law for $400, but then it is in rough shape and has a flathead 6 in it. You really cant tell what yr it is with out finding the numbers on the frame since you do not have original engine and trans. Just because the cab is painted, doenst mean that after all those years sitting in the barn things havent started to rust again. Mice love to build nests in old vehicles and mice nests love to attract moisture. Just look at the top of the cab above the windshield, it looks like rust is coming thru there.
The best thing to do is pull it out, take more pics and get more info (like the numbers off the frame) about it and really check it out.
you really do need the vin to know for sure. should be on frame behind steer box. won't be easy to access. do a pencil tracing, works best. considering that truck has dual wipers, (an option), and stainless trim, my bet is 46-47. 42-45 would have been military. no stainless.
