With the soaring gas prices, I have decide to install locking gas caps on my 87 F-150 with dual tanks.
Was wondering if there is a place to get some good quality caps and possibly even 2 caps that work off the same key.
I really do not want to use the junk from Auto Zone or O'Reillys !
idk i think theyre all junk. . .some crack smoke (or more likely out there in OK, would be a few hits of meth) will give anyone the motivation to pop 'em right off and steal your gas. not worth the troubles.
Anybody can get into anything if they wanted it, no matter what. Ive even heard of people drilling into the bottom of fuel tanks on trucks and SUV's just to steal the fuel.
However, the locking caps they sell at autozone work fine. Ive had one since the last time the fuel prices surged and living in an apartment I would rather my fuel be safe, at least in that way. The cap works fine. And, they come in packs of 2 also. Unless you install a key lock and bar on your fuel doors, youre probably not going to get any better.
According to the Stant web-site they offer locking gas caps
that can use the same key. If the caps are packaged separately there
is probably some code on the packaging label that identifies if the keys
for the caps are the same.
Ive had em yeah if someone really wants it they'll take it but i figure they'll open the door an see the caps an go try another car without em just becareful because I've had mine for two three years and this year they failed the pressure test at emissions. But I figure I got that much time out of em good money spent cause where I use to work people stole gas all the time an that's when I had the money to fill both tanks I mean that's about 37 gallons of gas I want to protect
I dont need one, no one would try and siphon it when its parked in a busy area (too likely to get caught) and at home I sleep lightly and have a boomstick that would make some nice holes in them.
I personally wouldnt bother with locking caps, its a waste of cash cause like someone said they wil drill holes in the tank if they want it that bad.
The only plus side I see to locking gas caps is to prevent someone from pouring sugar ect into your tank. Darn vandals!!! Other then that if they want your gas they'll get it unless it's parked and guarded by some means. lol Good luck with finding the right caps.
I know everyone says if they want it they will get it, but I go by "Locks keep honest people honest." Most theives are lazy. I have locking gas caps on my F150, Mustang, and motorcycle. The ones on the F150 and Mustang are from Advance. They both work fine and are worth the investment in my opinion. The fit and finish on the cap on my XT is much nicer, but it is OEM. Get one. If you have a locking cap and the truck next to you doesnt, the theif will pass over yours instead of pull out the cordless drill for a little extra work.
I have locking gas caps 2 of them that work off the same key but there old.I bought 2 new locking gas caps from stant and you need 2 keys for both caps.since i couldnt find 2 caps that work off teh same key i put the old caps back on.

As what happend to me, but with recycled beer...... at least it was a minor problem to correct but was nasty.
One thing I've always liked about my old Toyotas is the factory locking gas door. Obviously it's not unbreakable, but it makes the theif want to move on to the next vehicle. And it's OEM!
