Well i'm having a problem with putting my new U-joints in. I have fully compressed the U-joint in the drive shaft and put in one snap-ring, but there is still a Millimeter or so to go so that the other snap ring will fit . I'm worried that i might have dented the yoke when driving out the old U-joint and that is why the last snap ring will not fully engage the reces in the yoke.... OR did i just get the wrong U-joint. I can post pics if it would help in diagnosing my problem.
It's one of two things;
1. A roller is out of place like was mentioned or
2. The yoke got bent a little bit when the old u-joint was taken out. This happens a lot, since the old ones get rusty and are stubborn sometimes. I would eyeball the yoke ears, and see if you can tell if one of them is bent in a little bit. You may be able to lay something long and straight on the outer part of each yoke and see if the straight edge lines up parallel to the shaft. You will have to figure out a way to straighten it out if you do find one bent.
If you caved in the snap ring groove in one little spot, take a cold chisel and try to knock it back open again.
I had this same problem when i did my front axle joints, got the fancy ones with the zerks had the same issue they were just a little too wide, when and tried the el-cheapo and it fit right in.
