New to me 2008 F-250

Hello everyone. Purchased an 08 F-250 SD Diesel 4x4 Lariant. This is my first diesel and I'm
learning a lot from this place. Thanks to everyones contributions. Some threads have me
totally freaked out while others make me feel good about my purchase. I'm confident that I
made a good purchase and will be looking to you for advise from time to time.

The truck has 79k miles and the previous owner had the truck maintained by the dealer. I
puchased an extended warranty for 3 yrs/36k miles. Overall the truck is beautiful with very
little wear. It has minor scratches but that is expected. The truck was listed for 31k and I
offered 29k and they accepted the offer. I have made previous purchases from this dealer so he
knows I will be back. This was not puchased at a Ford dealer, but a local dealer. From my
research I beleive I got a pretty good deal.

I got the dreaded Drain Water Separator message the other day after trying a different stations
diesel. My first fill up did not produce this message. I finally did find the drain vavle
thanks to reading others issues on here. I got a small blob of goo at the bottom of the 16oz
bottle but no water. Will the water be on top or bottom of the fuel? Talking with the service
manager at Coastal Ford he beleives it's a bad sensor like many others here have experienced.
Hopefully this will be covered under my warranty. Other than that everything is good. Glad to
be here and can't wait to pull my boat with this beast.

I think what you need to do is to clean the separator part by taking off the bolts. Clean it all out.

While you are at it, put in new fuel filters. Motorcraft only on this truck for both fuel and oil filters.

In the attached pic you can see the bolts right there.

This is not a warranty issue, unless the sensor is bad. But I would pull that off and clean it first, change filters then see.

Thanks senix, I was hoping you would chime in. Are you saying remove the 5 bolts that are facing me in the picture? The service manager also suggested that I try to clean it out myself. He said to spray some break cleaner and it would clean it out pretty good. Any idea what size bolts those are and what tool to take them off with?

Yes, remove the bolts that you see. Not sure of the size though, had it somewhere but don't recall.

Gives you an opportunity to visit the tool dept

Just a socket and extension should do it.

Welcome,
I have only had my 08 350 for a few months but so far I love it. I know what you mean about the good truck threads vs bad ones...

Folks on here are great and quick to help out.

Yea senix, my Robalo is going to look sharp going down the road now. Or the Ford is going to look sharp carrying the Robalo..... Not sure yet......

I decided to let my auto shop take care of it. I'm taking it in next week to have the sensor cleaned, oil change, and fuel filters.

A friend at work has a diagnostic computer and we hooked it up and the only two things that triggered was the fuel water seperator message and a message about the solenoid in the transfer case I believe. Is it because the front was not in 4wd?

Nice truck and pretty good price too. I paid the same for my 07 with just 12,000 miles less. Although that was with taxes and all fees included
