I know I have a large displacement diesel engine, but this is new. I have a noticable vibration and noise while sitting still, and seems to go away when I take off or press the go-pedal. I checked some engine parameters with my Taskmaster, but nothing stuck out to me. The rotational velocities are all at zero percent, injection pressure seems to be around the 500 psi mark at idle and raises and falls according to throttle input. I also did a quick check of the enging mounts by doing a brake torque in forward and reverse and the engine didnt flop around in the the engine compartment, so I am leaning away from that possibility. Im hoping someone here has some input.
Thanks!
Aaron
On my 2011 F350, with 8000 miles and immediately after my second oil change, I picked up a strong noticeable vibration at idle also that is felt in the steering wheel, the brake pedal and the interior console and seats. If I give it a bit of throttle at idle, it goes away, then come back as it settles back down to idle. It is not a rocking vibration as my 6.0 would produce, but a strong oscillating type harmonic vibration from the engine.
The reason I bring it up is that is was not present whatsoever up until my 2nd full synthetic oil change. They did overfill at least 1.5 quarts of oil but my service manager does not think that is enough to cause crankshaft cavitation issues.
I probably would not comment it on it had it been there at delivery new. I have checked hoses, under side exhaust hangers, etc and can not isolate the issue.
I am a diesel noob and have only had my "2001 for a few weeks but I also noticed a rotational vibration at idle. I figured I was normal oscillations within the engine. Rpm gauge stays steady.
I'm sorry I forgot to repost what I found. I removed the front drive shaft and drove it around for about 2 weeks and had NO noise or vibration. I then inspected the front driveshaft u-joints and slip joint and found the front u-joint seized and excessive slop in the slip joint. I just replaced the u-joint and greased the crap out of the slip joint and no more noise!
Hope this helps.
