Before pushing the insert all the way just start it.
Then insert the hitch lining the holes up, grasp hitch behind insert resting thumb so that the insert and hitch don't move(holes), slide in, put pin in, done.
Or just weld it probably be easier for you.
Mine is the same as yours. Yes, at first it's was a pain now I just do what I typed. No problem.
