Hey all,
I am very new at this so please bare with me. I need help finding the engine color for my truck as well as help decoding the VIN number. I would like to do an original restore on my truck but have no clue on where to start finding this information. I would appreciate any information and or help the community can offer.
My truck is a 1965 Ford F250 VIN: F25DR601431
Information I would like:
Engine Color and Original paint color.
There should be addition information on the id tag riveted to the drivers door. Axle, trans, engine, etc. What does it say? F - Ford, 25 - F250, DR - ? and the rest is the sequence of production. I have a Ford truck VIN decoder book at my shop. Don't know what the DR means without the book. Get the other information off that tag and you will get your question answered.
Found my book. D is for the 352 V8 and the R is assembly plant - San Jose CA. If I remember correctly the engines were painted black and the valve covers were painted gold. Here is a link in FTE with a picture:
Correct...engines are black, valve covers are gold
601431= October 1964 build date
F25= F250 series 2WD conventional cab truck, 3/4 ton load rating...typically Warranty Plate will say 7500 Max GVWR but there were other possibilities depending on the rear end and springs installed originally. If the truck is a Camper Special it will be a 7500 Max GVWR as thats what mine and I believe all 3/4 ton CS trucks are.
