i can tell a big difference between my 6.9l 4-speed and 7.3l e4od in pulling. 6.9l much better, but 7.3l was kingcab so somewhat heavier. mileage about the same in both, but can skip gears if i want with the 4-speed.

The truck has 300,000 on it and i think the injectors and pump do too. Filter gets changed every 2nd or 3rd oil change and for the miles I drive that's every 5- 6 mo. I have been wondering if the injector pump could be getting weak and not doing its job.

Its still doing its job finitetime but its not doing it well, the injectors age the same as the pump do. They are fairly easy to change on both. x2 on the 6.9l poocher. My buddy's 91 7.3l is the same way. It may be the same size, but there is a noticeable difference when it coems to pulling, the older manual transmissions and the ZF5 are meant to pull, granted on the ZF5 i wouldnt use the 5th gear unless I am in like SD or ND on a flat piece of ground that i can just fly across. I normally pull around 65 on the freeway, and normally drive about the same speed, my buddy's 7.3 can pull 65 and drive with nothing at about 65-70, his mileage goes down a bit (bout 2-3 mpg) if he does 70. I can do 70 in the 6.9l, but my mileage will go down considerably, (4-6 mpg) I would stick to around 65.

I kinda figured that and was planning on changing them out. Put new tires all around 5 weeks ago and was planning on pump and injectors next month but I will be spending all my extra cash on a new trans, the pump will have to work a little longer. This is the truck I work out of so I have to have it running.

The IP can be changed in an afternoon as well as the injectors at the same time. The pump will work until the diaphrame gets a hole in it. You may not have as much power but it will not die lol.
