I have a 93 F250 with 7.3 non turbo with the automatic transmission with overdrive. I think its a e4od. how can i tell its been rebuilt and there are no tags on it. Where is the best place to buy a good trans that I can pull with?
You are right its an E4OD. A lot of rebuilds will have a sticker on the pan that changes color with heat, this is for warranty porposes. Other then that I'm at a loss.
Trailer weighs 6,000 tractor weighs 12,500 with my 1,000lbs of weights. Total I'm at 24,000+gcw. Is is hard to pull? Is the pope catholic? It makes the old 6.9 pant, but it does it, the weak point is the trans, i can't lay into the smoke pedal too much or the trans gets hot, i have a second aux cooler I'm going to put on that should fix the problem. The E4OD is better for pulling because of the lockup converter so it builds less heat due to them not slipping like ye olde c6 does.
I started complaining about my truck not having the pulling power is should have right after they put in the transmission. I pull a trailer (1000lbs) and a small skid steer (5500lbs) and it had to work to get it up to 55 and keep it there. I use to work for company and had to pull a Long tractor on a goose neck trailer and when you drove the tractor onto the trailer it would lift the rear of the truck up off the ground until the dove tail of the trailer hit the ground and it had less of a problem pulling that tractor with the same year model truck than i do.
You should be able to pull as well as 84-6.9L can with his truck. That kind of load should be small pickins' for a diesel. How old is your injection system and what condition is your E4OD in? Do you know if the E4OD TPS is adjusted correctly?
how many miles on the truck? he was asking about the ip and injectors cause the average strong life for them is right around 100k miles. after that they lose their power more and more but still work well. you can get a new (rebuilt) pump for $240 from u-haul on ebay, injectors can be had for cheap though many different companies like pensicola
I have a 94 non turbo idi with 3.54s and 33 inc tires my trailer wieghs in at 2300 lbs empty its a 16 foot cargo trailer 7 ft wide and 7 ft high insulated and has 3/4 plywood on walls and door skin on ceiling and I know that it behind me when its empty . I took it out for a tow with my 97 powerstroke with 4.10s and stock tires the difference was like night and day I am hopeing that itworks as well wen we get into the mountians at 4000 ft and up to 6000
This is why I trust the manual for pulling, i pulled my gooseneck up evaro hill(big *** hill North of missoula) I did 65 up the hill, granted the EGTs were up 1050 roughly, this was back when it was N/A. I wonder what it will do now....I like watching the boost gauge wind up and hearing it lol.
The E4OD is a good tranny for pulling, it sounds like you got issues with the IP & Injectors....maybe dirty fuel filter too.
Like Oreo said, get the new IP, install that, time it, new injectors, and either take off the filter and pour out the diesel into the tank and fill it with diesel kleen, or take it off, put fresh diesel in there and let it run through.
Honestly i wish i had a stick. That way i could pick a gear and lay into the throttle, no slip and i could keep the engine in its power band better because i would have another gear.
