What do i do??

Hey guys i havent been on in a while, and i thought you guys could give me a few ideas. I have a 1989 F250 4x4 standard cab with a C6. I recently t-boned a car, but it ws their fault, and i should be getting a pretty decent check as my truck is in very good condition . I need a new front bumber, quarter panels, and everything else that is in the front. But i was thinking since i will have a bunch of extra cash, i want to turbo it and possibly take out my C6 and put a E4OD in it to get better milage, as i want to lift it a few inches and put 35 in tires possibly on it. The C6 in there now only has twenty thousand on it, but is it worth switching trannys? i hate getting 13mpg when i could get 20, but how much could i get a E4OD for, and is it worth it? I plan on keeping this truck for a long time, and i want to make it awesome, and get good milage at the same time. My budget is about 3000 dollars, is it possible to do everything i want if i sell my C6 also? I guess im just looking for price estimates on a turbo and tranny, and how much i could get for my C6. My goal is to make it rust free, turbo it, and put in a E4OD. Mainly i want that tranny, the C6 is bulletproof, but i can;t stand the milage, any info helps!! thanks guys

Rust free, turbocharged, what more do you need, haha. Never had a c6 so no comment on that, but I do like my E4OD mileage. I am looking to get my truck rust free too and por15 coated this summer. Where are you getting your front fenders from?

i say its worth it if you like the truck. you know whats in the motor and rest of the truck. if you get something that has everything you want, motor could be junk, treated bad. it might be worth keeping your truck for parts and get a complete truck. maybe something thats just got a blown motor and swap yours into it. the e4od would be nice for the mpg and drop in rpm's but you might wanna look into a overdrive unit behind it. can shorten your driveline up and keep your tranny.

Put a gear vendors overdrive behind the C6?

Or find a little 3spd brownie transmission to put behind the transfer case. Give you a low, a direct, and an overdrive.

That's the way to do it. The E4OD is for people that like to walk.

not a true direct like the E40D when the converter locks though.you're still left with an outdated tranny that was good for its time but not compliant with fuel prices of $4 plus a gallon.

its a good trans if you want to work.did you know they have the highest rated towing capacity of any trans offered behind the idi engine?
proper maintenance and not driving them with electric problems is key.most people don't change the fluid in them every 30k max,and keep driving them with a blinking od light.

there's no truck in your current sig that suggests you swapped out an E40D for another trans.
any more details about your experience?

13 mpg is getting down around my current setup while hauling heavy.
you may want to focus first on a complete idi diesel tune up.
fresh ip,injectors, and timing set is likely your best place to start.
this is all well within your budget.a complete tune up for this engine should run you well under 1k.
there's a lot of folks running stock pickup beds, claiming peaks of 20 mpg's hwy even without overdrive (though im a little skeptical myself.i guess if just driving on the flat for long periods and wasting the trucks abilities by driving it like a car.-20 mpgs is way,way too low for doing such a thing imho anyway.)
a lift with 35" tires is moving in the wrong direction for fuel economy too.
