You can get the rods and jets through summit racing and can get the summit brand for cheaper than the Edelbrock brand. Same thing except the numbers on the rods and jets are easier to read!
Use a little stronger step up spring and see if that helps it. If not try going alittle richer or alittle leaner in te power mode on that chart. I'd try the step up spring first then go from there.
I put it on the 2nd one from the bottom and it seemed to be running good until you went WOT, checked my secondary metering jets they're .077 o.O so I swapped them for the .095 that the previous owner had placed in the primaries. It seems to be running solid I don't see why the Idiots had the primary jets at .095 and the secondaries at 0.77 considering when I bought it the carb was mounted to the DP on a 240.....
Its mixture is alright at idel but the throttle is still touchy and boggy and when floored if not under a load it stalls it, being as this is a older carter and everything else was way off to begin with I am going to order a spring kit if not I that doesn't work I am riping it off and finding a stock carb and putting it back like it was.
On my truck I am running 6 on that chart in that manual which is 1423 (.086") Main Jet and 1463 (.067" x .055") Rod with the stock orange spring and a .89 secondary jet. You might check where your pump drive is set at. Where I am at with my setup on my truck is still a tad rich in the power mode but cruise mode I am a little lean. It takes a lot of tinkering with it to get it dialed in perfect. Weather plays a big roll. I noticed once I got heat hooked up to the bottom of the intake it made a big difference. I was originally running a heated carb spacer.
I am hooked to the stock manifold the offy is getting hot enough to burn the crap out of my hand so heat isn't a issue plus being 82 outside its plenty warm. changing the pump drive location only seems to make it run different for a short amount of time then its back to the bogging when the gas is hit. Does moving the arm up or down the row of settings make the pump spray larger or smaller? My spring isn't colored its just a regular spring.
So far it is setup like this
.086 primary jet with a .095 secondary jet
and .067x.055 metering rods I have one set of rods that is a step richer however it seems to make no difference as far as the bog/ stumble is concerned.
Well I put the yellow HG 4" spring in and set the accelerator pump to the very top setting and after advancing the timing to 14 and putting the 77 metering jet back in the secondaries I was finally able to get it driveable. My throttle assembly is pure BS though it snapped the cable wich seriously screwed me lol drives entirely different though. Ounce I get a feel for the new pedel setup and traffic dies down I'll take it on a street were I am actually able to use 4th gear going fast then 25mph
I had a hard time getting my throttle cable setup. I bought a aftermarket or from Autozone. I had a heck of a time with it binding and being super hard to push!! It has that little angle going through the firewall that screws you. I ended up using the stock cable an made a bracket to hold it and used the end off of the aftermarket kit to hook it to the carb. I got my throttle bracket from I believe user FMC400 on here. He had a good bracket setup. You might check his pics and look at it. I don't know if that is your problem having a really stiff pedal or not.
No my throttle pedal doesn't hook to the cable at the firewall my trucks a 72 so it was set up with a bell crank I drilled out the pressed in attachment for the rod and socket and set it up to accept a cable but the cable I used was off of a 10 speed so it snapped lol. This thing runs pretty solid ounce up to running temp and slip the clutch while taking off but if you let it cool down at all it starts up and bogs like a sob so I swapped out the 160deg stat for a 180deg to see if that will make a difference. I need to measure the pump nozzles/jets they don't tapper down much by the looks of them and squirt a pretty fat stream when the pump is moved.
Just measured the accelerator pump nozzles they're .043. Sigh at least I didn't spend the money on the calibration kit it doesn't appear to come with any different settings for the accelerator pump nozzle and being as adjusting the pump made a difference I am guessing dropping those down a size or two will make it way better.
ya I had my uncle set it to the smallest I can still manage to stall it upon take off if I hit the gas wrong and don't slip the clutch lol. That kit is pricey but my pump nozzles are huge, whoever set this thing up had it really lean o nthe secondaries and really rich on the primaries.
