Well autozone has this starter for $50 so I think I will just get a new one and see if that fixes the issue.

I have this small alternator/ starter shop near me ran by guy that has to be in his 90s that does amazing work. At my previous company I would take any Deere, CAT, semi-truck, Ford Powerstroke item to him and either have one already to go or turn the old one around within a day.

Cheap too. I figured when the 74 starter finally bit the dust he would be the one to repair it.

Something to look into in your area if you have the time and can wait a day or two.
