Have not posted on here in a long time, usually can find all the answers by searching the threads but need some help. Just bought a 7.3 2001 Excursion with 145,000 miles. Drove it back home to Texas from Kentucky last week and got around 12.5 mpg and the truck stutters, sometimes in 3rd around 35 mph but mostly in overdrive around 45 mph - 55 mph, but only when maintaining a constant speed, it stops when I let off or push down on the pedal. Also notice a lack of power. Had a superchips flashpaq tuner when purchased, I returned to stock. Took it to the stealership and they replaced the EBP sensor, still have the same problems. I plan on replacing the ICP sensor this weekend (has oil in it) as recommended in another thread. Any other suggestions?
I would baseline this new truck - check fuel and air filters, oil condition, coolant, etc. Get a code dump (if it set a code). Consider removing the valve covers and checking the undercover wiring harness and doing the 50 cent mod. Check all intercooler/turbo boots - are the clamps tight. Learn how much boost you're seeing.
Don't assume the dealer will do this small stuff - they generally dump code and replace lots of parts (sensors) before considering other avenues.
Should have mentioned dealership replaced oil and fuel filters, oil looked OK before it was changed. No thrown codes show up on the superchips flashpaq but I don't know if all the codes would show up on it.
