2004 Stutter?

I have a 2004 screw 4x4 with the 5.4 I just purchased. It is pushing 80k on the truck and to my knowledge has never had a plug change. It does have bad cam phasers but beyond that it is a great truck. I usually cruise 35 miles one way to work at about 60-65 mph. I had to pass someone today at around 50mph and as I kicked it down it had a bad stutter or miss then as I let off it came into it and ran great. I have noticed this 2 or 3 times now but only when I hit it to pass someone. It idles rock solid and runs out great once the little miss is out of it. Any suggestions?

How's the basic stuff? Air filter, fuel filter, fresh oil and filter, check the codes etc.

Usually a miss under load or acceleration is fuel system or ignition system. I would check for codes first of all. MIL will not come on necessarily if there are codes stored. That will give you direction. With the miles you have, it could be ignition or fuel system.

Fuel filter I am not sure how old it is but I know the air filter is new and the oil change has a Motorcraft filter and new oil as of 400 miles ago.

It cuts out like it is lack of fuel but the best way I can describe it is anyone who owned an old carb car with a bad excelerator pump when you first hit the throttle. But this is running 55 or so and you just stomp it. From a dead stop it is spot on it will break both back tires loose for a second and go without hesitation.

I would run a code scan on it. Be particularly mindful of PO191 code, or any misfire codes or fuel pump relay codes. 04's also had some injector problems.
