Could use some help with noise. Truck in signature. Story starts with noticing tire wear on outside of tires. I start looking at front suspension/steering and see I need to replace drag link tie rods. Figure to replace outer also. Lifted front to try to check ball joints. Not much, but very slight movement, but will get another set of eyes to confirm. When grabbing tire 3 & 9 or 6 & 12, no movement or rattle.
I hear no unusual noises while driving, truck runs/stops straight. I spun the tires while lifted, and slight noise from driver side, but I wouldn't say grinding. But on passenger side, it sounds like something is inside, climbing up with the rotation, then falls. A very muffled shoe in the dryer type sound, or the bottom of a cut off valve stem left in a tire, but again not grinding. Truck sits most of winter so haven't used 4x4 in a while.Any ideas or suggestions??
At purchase, dealer replaced rt ft unit hub assembly, both side axle and dust seals, new pads and rotors turned all around. That was 4 years and 25000 miles ago.
Take the right wheel off and see if the sound is still there. You can rule out something inside the tire by rolling in around in the driveway. You'll also have a better view of the hub and caliper with the wheel off.
Pulled right front hub assemble. The tumbling noise is coming from the auto lock hub. Plan to go through those also. Moving forward with cleaning and re-grease needle bearing. Mobile 1 synthetic GC-LB wheel bearing O.K.? Also, when I removed the hub, 2 of the 4 studs threaded out of the hub, and a third one is loose. Should I double nut these studs and install to PFT ft./lbs, or is there a better way and a spec somewhere? Lock tight?
