Shipping F250
They are charging $1000 from Pennsylvania to New Mexico, which is about mid-range from all the other quotes I got.
They want $195 up front for a deposit. Should I do this? They havent done anything for me yet, so I'm a bit weary of giving them my credit card # over the phone. They said this assures my price and spot on a carrier. They said the balanced should be paid on delivery in New Mexico.
Since my truck is running but not worthy of a cross country trip, it is not insured or registered. Most people here said this is not a problem, but the only thing showing my ownership of the truck is the title and whatever paperwork we may put together with the shipping company. Does this work?
I just want to make sure I do this shipping right, and not get screwed or ripped off. Thanks guys

I'm not overly experienced at shipping a truck or choosing a company to do it but I did just go through this about a month ago.
I had a 79 F-350 4x4 shipped from California to Michigan. If your truck is in nice condition I would suggest an enclosed trailer, you wouldn't believe what a hailstorm can do to the surface of painted metal. This will cost extra, $400 extra at one company and it could be more or less at others. I had no problems with putting up the $150 down payment they wanted at the company I used. This is a link Auto Transport 800-600-3750 Instant Online Quotes for Car Shipping.
I paid $1700 for this job and not to knock any other company, I would do business again with this company. I also paid the rest upon delivery of the vehicle.
I don't know how insurance works on a vehicle being hauled like that, the info is on their site but I don't recall. I hope this helps you a little bit.
P.S. I'm not absolutely certain but I think that a lot of these car-hauling companies sublet the job out to somebody else and they act as the middleman in the transaction, but I could be wrong about that.
PP.S. Regarding the $195 deposit, look at it from their point of view: They are going to arrange for a truck driver to come to an address of a person (you) they don't know and pick up a truck that you say is there. You could be pranking them (not suggesting this) so they need a deposit so that the driver doesn't pull up to a vacant lot and waste everybodys time.
