Hello, I have a 1990 Fleetwood Bounder motorhome w/ 460 and auto w/od.Went and filled up for trip to Darlington this weekend and light on od on/off switch on dash started flashing and speedo tripodo and odometer quit working and trans started shifting like a shift kit was magically installed. the pan has metric on it, fluid is at full level and smells and looks fine please help if you can. thanks Robert
You have an E4OD transmission. The flashing light means a code was stored in the PCM to tell what's not working right.
Since the speedo and odometer quit at the same time it almost certainly is the speed sensor on top of the rear axle. It's a $20 part that takes one bolt and one wiring connector to change.
Thanks Mark, You were right about the speed sensor, I changed it out last night, it worked for approx. 2 miles and speedo quit again. There must be an issue with the speedo gear or cable. I hope its not the gear on the output shaft because it has the parking brake drum between the extension housing and drive shaft. Thanx Robert
Mark, thanks again for the help. The small plastic gear on the end of the speed sensor inside the tranny was the culprit. It was stripped on the inside in the square drive where it slips onto the speed sensor. I couldn't find one local so I had to improvise. J B Quick (fast setting JB Weld) gave me a dependable temporary repair until I can get a new gear. I think the speedo cable may have caused the gear to strip, it had a lot of resistance turning it by hand. I will replace it also when I get a new gear. THANX Robert
