I have a 351 w in the panel. while I was tunning the carb, I found that the left bank of cylinders are running 520-540 degrees ex at idle, and right bank is at 460-490.the motor runs smoth and pulls 15 lbs of vac. What would make the difference?
Is the carb idle mix the same for both sides? Are the carb idle jets the same size for both sides? Are all the plugs the same brand and heat range?
How do you even know the temp? Are you basing it off of the exterior temps of your exhaust manifolds/headers? If so, perhaps heat builds higher on one side of the engine compartment because of a difference in air circulation??
I would pull the plugs and check for a nice light gray or tan color on the ceramics. If they are the desired color, then exterior temps on the exhaust don't mean much.
I would say Jag hit the nail on the head...look for signs that internally your temps are different. External temps dont mean a whole lot because air flow can be different from side to side. I would say the carb is not dialed in the same from side to side. Not all brands run heat ranges in line with part numbers or SKU numbers for some reason.
The Idel mixture screws are the same on both sides,as far as jets go it was a new carb when put on and I have never had it apart.I did take header outside temps. It looks like the plugs will come out next. It runs well I just like to putter, thats how I found the difference.
Just to let you know, the plug colors will also vary slightly depending on where they're located in the head. Heat tends to build up in the center two, while the ones on the ends of the head may be a little darker, IE cooler. Good luck, Jag
