Looking for some interior help on my '99 F150. Need to find out what the name and color of the interior cloth is on my seat cushion as it needs to be replaced and I know someone who can get me the original material but he needs the specific info of name of material, trim number, etc.
If anyone could tell me how to find any of this out from the VIN or somewhere else on the vehicle, it would be very helpful and thanks.
Thanks Steve. Always meant to decipher the VIN but never had a chance 'till now. Unfortunately it told me nothing about my interior color and seat material so am still looking for help on that if anyone knows. Thanks again.
Take a look at the label on the driver's door pillar (at least that is where it is on my 3-door '97 SuperCab). At the bottom of the label you should see "INT TR". Just below that is the interior trim code. I would think that a car upholstery business should be able to just run with that, because the average car owner has no idea what the colors/material details are.
If you need an actual name, then post your Interior Trim code here, and maybe someone has a brochure or shop manual with the colors to codes.
I have a '97 full brochure somewhere, and have early shop manuals for the '97.
It's possible that your '99 interior trim colors may have been used in '97 too. Or it may not have been.

Unfortunately, due to some prior paint work, the body shop laquer thinnered off possibly that vital portion of the info label on the door pillar with the info I need. My parts dept contact told me that my interior is medium prairie tan based on the VIN info.
So I will ask in this thread and may start another for this same question: does anyone have a '99 F150 with Toreador red exterior and medium prairie tan interior that could tell me what their info on the lower part of the door pillar label says regarding interior trim? Thanks.
Does anyone out there know where I can get cloth upholestery for my F 150 1999 and my 2004 F150 Heritage. Both drivers seats are coming undone and wearing out as you enter/exit out. Ford tells me it is now obsolete and have to find outside vendors. Anyhelp in Ford Land. Have 3 trucks all Fords, A Mercury, and a Shelby....... Yes it is an old one....... Help my Ford Friends. Gerrit
Thanks Lou. It is much appreciate as FORD offered no assistance in this matter and they just said the upholstery is obsolete. And you know what that means.......... thanks again Gerrit
The VIN will be of no help at all, because it does not include the upholstery, nor the exterior color, type of trans or rear axle and etc. (and never has-back to 1948).
All these codes and more are printed on the Certification Label: 1981 thru today / 1961/80 Warranty Plate, 1948/60 Rating Plate.
I have the Ford Truck Parts Catalog that covers these trucks (thru 2001), so can decode all the codes found on the Certification Label and decode the VIN.
For original upholstery: smsautofabrics.com (located in Canby OR). You will need to pass along the interior trim code (or body code prior to 1981).
FoMoCo sold the seat covers already sewn...and it just might be possible to find NOS (New Old Stock) seat covers, but it will be pricy!
Seat upholstery was one of the first things to be obsoleted, as most were replaced under warranty.
The seat covers do not include the padding, it was sold separately as Cushion Kits or Back Kits.
FordLou: I found the Medium Prairie Tan trim code, or rather the trim codes as there is more than one. The specific code for your truck is based on type of material and type of seat.
Material: All Vinyl / All Cloth / Cloth and Leather.
Thanks a million for this. My parts guy Larry Patterson, retired a few years ago, and should have got the upholstery back then. Thought Ford kept the parts for 10 YEARS, but now they tell me it is 6 years. Well of course, just after the warranites run out. Not sure who does this thinking, but it is not good. I am sure the Ford personnel, do not read this forum, or else I would hope that Ford would understand the frustration we owners go through to get the parts needed to maintain our Trucks. I am hoping to put 250,000 miles on all 3 of my trucks, and keep them in close to showroom condition. Ripped seats and worn out cloth, does not make that grade. Again thanks for the heads up. I guess I still have alot to learn.......... Gerrit
Some parts are only kept as long as the vehicle is under warranty. Parts that sell well...will be kept as long as they are viable.
Most parts personnel don't give a damn about older vehicles, don't know diddly-squat about them.
35 years (1962/97) in the Ford partsbiz here in LA LA Land, besides myself, I only knew one Ford partsguy that was into "old rolling piles of misery."
Today he owns a Mustang/Shelby resto shop in North Hollywood CA. Since you own an older Shelby, you may know who this is.
I can assist you with parts thru 2001. Read thru some of my back posts, you'll see that I look up then search for obsolete parts for members, post the part number(s)/sources that have them.
FTE has a Ford Dealer Parts Dept sponsor that assists and gives discounts to members: PARTSGUYED.COM / Horizon Ford in Seattle (Tukwila) WA
Thanks for the offer, Bill. Already got my fabric from SMS which matched up perfectly.
Gerrit, glad the info helped. Everyone here wants a member to succeed. They are #1. Good luck.
