I need some help quick straight up timing install

I've pulled everything and tryed to pull the timing cover off and there is a half moon shaped think on my crank. I can't figure out how to get it off. Please help me guys. Motor is an 84 Ford 460.

That is the key that keeps your damper from spinning on the crank. Just take a punch or a chisel and tap it out.

That is outside of my timing cover. Like a pie shaped deal, is there a pin I need to remove to get that off or what? Its hooked on my crank and then there is like a pie slice on the outside. Any ideas?

like I said, take a center punch and a small hammer (ball peen) and tap it out. No pin .

billt28 is spot on, but I'll add just to help visualize it:

You have to pop a woodruff key off the crank snout and then the pie-shaped weight(external crank balance) will slide off.

Mine was a PAIN to remove.

This is a BMW crankshaft, with two woodruff keys:


And here's what one looks like, once popped off:

Woodruff key, thats what its called. I can never remember what the name is.

Yea, it's just wedged in the machined slot. That's the way it's supposed to fit. Just tap it out. When you go to put the harmonic balancer back on, tap the key back into the slot first, and then you'll be able to press the balancer back onto the crank over the key, through the slot thats broached inside the balancer.

Ok boys I finally realized how stupid I was I've been at this all day and when I hit the woodruff it stopped. I tried turning the pie shaped deal and no go then i realized wait that woodruff pry can came out. Anyway I am back onto the harmonic now. I lined up the slot in the harmonic with the woodruff and am using an install tool and I quickly run out of threads on my tool as I crank it down. I guess tomorrow I will be crank down the bolt inside the snout all the way and then try again.
