havn't fired up my 54 in 3 or 4 weeks ,,opened the barn doors checked the oil and water,,turned the key and hit the button...and it sat ideing ..no smoke no rattling..took a short run damm it feels good ,, wish I had insurance money...that is the biggest problem I have ..is this normal??..glad I didn't tear her down to restore ..
just my opinion but far too many people buy a project and rush head long into the tear down only to have the project stall out. Live and learn I guess!
I am glad to hear that you are getting to enjoy the truck somewhat... get some insurance on her and get it on the road!
I am paying 40 bucks a month for state required insurance.drive it everyday.
I been itching to take it apart to fill the holes in the firewall and paint it paint the motor and undercoat the front sheet metal but I am afraid how long will it sit like that and how many parts Im going to lose if I do.

I'm just getting set to go for a series of rides with a buddy of mine, and it snowed yesterday and this morning -- and I'm about 1500 miles south of you! I got more riding in during February. But 80 by Wednesday, hopefully no more of this stuff.

Since my truck was never ment to be anything close to a show truck, I have driven it thru out the whole project, at one point i had a cab with the radiator braced on the frame taillites hanging off the back, I could not bear to let it sit during a tru frame up build.I guess it depends on what your long term plans are. Besides this whole thing has been a learning expierence for me (no pryor skills). Im havin a ball learning how to do so many things, have fun with yours whatever you do. (JIMMY)
I understand what you mean..mine went from flower pot to play-toy /workhorse..with a brake job ,and gas tank..in about 4 weeks ..it has taken longer getting tires on her and a couple of rims..paint is not high on the list..I think I was just whining about parking her and she still fires right up ready to go...I'm trying to get my front axle back together...5 ball bearings that I havn't quite figgerd out how they fit in all at the same time..
