my brother bought a 08 6.4L and 30 days later it is still in shop. He got to drive it for 4-5 days before purchase and loved it. After purchase, the dealer agreed to fix a few minor things, one was a camshaft or crankshaft seal that was leaking. After that was replaced, he left out and after 20 miles the truck went into shut down mode. He pulled over, turned key off and restarted and everything was fine, for about another 20 miles. Then same thing. He took back and they thought they new the problem, but they say since it isn't throwing any codes and it isn't over heating, they don't know of anything else to try.
I have told him to get with them Monday to recheck all connections around where they were working to make sure everything is fully plugged in.
You guys are really knowledgeable and any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.
Well after reading your issue and the reply from the other reader, i concure in that no matter what i feel about the 6.4 , that the computer does leave a footprint (code) when the vehicle goes into "limp home" mode. I suspect your dealer either doesnt know how to repair it, or they maynot want to, or they made a mistake from the ealier repair so they just covered it up by fixing it and letting it go no charge. since we have had to perform the latest recall 11b23 these (6.4) now have even more reasons for it to go into limp home mode. they range from most seen is the ability to see a thermostat problem to an overfull crankcase, that is just what i have had to deal with so far, there is much more. So to get the problem fixed he may have to take it to another dealer. If it still has warranty your brother is lucky, i hope for your brothers sake he bought the extended warranty, cause hes gonna need it. Soon as you get a code post it as for it narrows the problem significantly.
