I have the factory electric tow mirrors on my truck right now but I would love to have the tow mirrors with the turn signals in them. Is it possible to put the newer style on without it being a wiring nightmare?
Just an FYI as I look for a part number or turn signal mirrors for my 2002 I'm not seeing them. I do find plenty on 2003 model trucks, while still the same generation might not be the same bolt patterns, I don't know. Maybe somebody who has done this could answer the question?
You might have to buy later model mirrors that have the signals in them but will still bolt to your truck but the wiring isn't there, so you will have to run it. I find running wires, installing relays, etc. the easiest thing to do with vehicle modifications, but that's just me.
Just as a point of information. It is my understanding that 99-2011 mirrors are basically interchangeable. I now have a set of 10 mirrors on my 99. Took off the old ones and put on the new ones. I still have to do some wiring as I didn't have any lights on mine but now have light and heaters. The wiring will go smooth when I get to it. Again, I am told that the mirrors are interchangeable.
The turn signal option came out when the 2003 mid model year change that included the 6.0 engine. They will interchange with the older trucks physically and with some simple running of some wires, you can get the turn signals and running lights to work.

Wouldn't say it is better but more information and opinions isn't always a bad thing.
