I talked to lots of people about paint my truck before I made a decision. They guy I chose told me the body was pretty straight, wouldn't need a great deal of body work and he would just charge me an hourly rate. I gave him my truck, knowing he lived a good 80 miles away, but I had met the guy and did a deal with him a few years earlier. He told me it would take about 3 or 4 months so I was thinking from June until September or October. I picked the truck up today because so far he has charged me $8500 and the truck looks like crap. Every time he told me he needed something, I ordered it. New tailgate, fender, wheelhousing, bed panels, all to save time and money. I wish you could see this thing. He charges me for "cutting out old wheelhousings and welding in new ones". Does tack welding qualify for that? In addition, $2200 was in "supplies", such as $93 for cutting wheels. Really? Sorry for the long rant, I'm just so disappointed it's depressing. Anyone recommend and honest and good body and paint guy near Fort Worth?
Post some pics if you can. A call to the Better Business Bureau or a post on Angie's List may shut this crook down. A reputable body shop wouldn't have strung you along like this. Get the word out like you did here to prevent another victim....
Did you receive a written estimate before any work was done? If so, if the estimate changed, were you notified (each time)?
Both are US laws covering auto repair, and if you received neither, you don't have to pay a cent.
However, if this is "a shade tree" operation, none of the above applies. The laws only apply to licensed "Bureau of Automotive Repair" body shops, new/used car/truck dealers, garages.
