Here we go again....

Well..truck was running great since I had a chat with cheezit. Towed boat home yesterday...no problems. Went and picked up a piece of equipment today...no problem. Back the truck in the driveway and shut it off. Yooouuu guessed it....no start. Cranked it over for a long period...oil pressure doesnt move. Unplugged ICP (i think thats the name)...no start. Shoot some carb cleaner in the air inlet...starts, but only runs on the spray. So...I'm back to working on it again. Anybody lead me in the right direction ? Thanks.

STC fitting took a dump would be my best bet or you sprang a leak somewhere in the HPO system big enough to allow a huge oil bleed off. Only takes 7.5 psi for the indash dummy gauge to register pressure.

Sounds like Tim hit the nail on the head to me. Do check for codes however before jumping to our opinions.

I have this guy (diesel mech) come over...2 codes...something to do with the ICP if I remember right. I just bought the truck a month ago, and the seller said they had just changed the oil (had sticker in the window)..anyway the mechanic said the oil was low, and that these motors have some kinda fail safe. He said to fill it up and it should start. I go and get the oil...(took 8 quarts !!!) and it turns over really fast, but wont fire. I'll take the blame for the oil being low...but I just drove the truck earlier that day, and all the gauges were in the "good" zone...so that never occured to me. Anyways, I try the carb cleaner in the air intake trick again (it would fire and momentarily run before) and it wont even fire now. I checked all the fuses, and even tried resetting the fuel pump relay in the kick panel. I'm gonna get up in the morning and do the ICP voltage test. Can you tell me where the STC fitting is ? Hard to repair ? I there a way to tell if thats what is causing this ? Thanks.

How many miles were driven while the engine was 8 quarts low?

You may have air in the system. If so, it might take a fair bit of cranking to get it started. Then again, it could easily be the HPO system as previously stated.

It is the fitting on the discharge of the high pressure oil pump for year models 2005 - 2007. It is prone to leaking. STC stands for snap-to-connect.

Thank you sir !!! Now, I've been trying not to bother you guys...lol...and doing some searches on my own...and I have discovered a new possible item/problem. Can someone tell me (school me) about the IPR regulator ? What does it do ? Where is it ? Easy fix ? I'm learning that this could be my problem possibly ?

IPR is on the HPOP, easy to get to if you remove the turbo...

I guess if you have the time its worth to check it out...

If the screen is damaged at all, replace it...

One time, my truck wouldnt start at all...crank for days...

Turned out to be my IPR...The pic is a bit blury but if you closely enough at it, the screen is broken in 3 places, and dirty

So could the IPR cause low, or no oil pressure ? If I do the ICP electrical test this morning, and if it shows low voltage (pressure)...could the IPR cause this ? I'm learning how this whole system works (thanks to you guys) so please bare with me and my irritating questions.

Just got done doing the ICP electrical test. I think your supposed to have at least .80 volts ? I got a high of .26 volts as the motor was being cranked. The number went up slightly the longer you cranked it...but quit rising at .26v

I got the IPR out without removing the turbo (had to make a special tool). It has a hole the size of pencil lead in the screen...and in my opinion, its kinda dirty. Does anyone know if the screen has damage that the IPR is bad then ? Also..is there a way to test it while its outta the truck ? If anybody is super knowledgeable about this...pleeeeeeeeeeeze feel free to call me. Thanks. (716) 807-4561 Jim.
