My understanding, I am no pro by anymeans, is if the sceen is dirty or tore, it is shot and should be replaced! Maybe Cheezit, Nccpartsman, Mchan, or Bismic or...... will pick up on this! Maybe PM one of thes fella's!
Thanks guys. I guess what I'm basically asking is...lets say this IPR is bad..would/could that cause the truck to not start all of a sudden, show low ICP voltage, and not move the gauge on the dash while cranking ?
if the IPR is bad then IIRC the truck wont start. then again why is the truck 8 quarts low? was it not filled up all the way or is it leaking out or is the motor eating it. this can be a problem if the motor is eating it
Determine the reason for the EXTREMELY low oil level and replace the IPR valve.
I assume that you filled it up properly the last time the oil was changed (how many miles ago was this btw?). I also assume you have not seen any large oil puddles on the ground or any seriously "oil coated areas" of the engine or undercarriage. If that is all the case, I would pull the downpipe and look for oil there.
Have you been experiencing any significant exhaust smoke?
Truck was 6 quarts low after checking again (sorry). I'm really tired from working on this. Anyways, like I said earlier...i'll take the blame for the low oil. I bought the truck a month ago, and the seller said he just had the oil changed (proof by the sticker on the windshield), and I'm trained to always visually monitor my dash gauges. The dummy gauge on the dash was ALWAYS in the perfect zone, and I never checked it manually (my fault) because the oil was justed changed. I have no leaks at all on my concrete driveway...and the truck burns no oil visually. I'm going to assume whoever filled it up didnt realise how much these things hold...lol. Anyway, I'm going to get a new IPR tomorrow and see if that is the culprit. I'll tell you what...I'm new to this diesel thing, and it has humbled me QUICKLY.
Oh...and dont forget...the truck ran fine right up until I shut it off. It even fired on carb cleaner. Then, wouldnt fire at all. Thats where I am now...and showing .26 volts (ICP) while cranking. I'm praying that its the IPR.
Once you do get it running the first thing you want to do is drain the oil as if the previous owner may not even have put diesel oil in it. Also change the filter and use OEM replacement.
UPDATE:
I changed the IPR with a new one from ford. What a pain in the ***** that was !! I have big hands...and they just didnt wanna fit back there...lol. Anyways, I put everything back together..turned it over...AND IT FIRED !!!! I then reset the key...waited for the glow plug light to go out, and it started right up !!!!! Now, heres the big question...at high idle, with 15W 40 oil in it and about 45* F outside....what should my ICP voltage be ? I have no other way to monitor it right now.
Thanks to everyone who jumped in on this adventure.
Good to hear it all came together for you.I strongly suggest buying a scangauge two.they're about 175 bucks and worth every penny.it'll tell you exactly what its doing, when you want to know.
