I have hunted down pretty much all the threads to deal with this damn light to no avail. I have an 99 f250sd. The light doesn't flash any codes just comes on and stays on. pulled the passenger switch because the light wasn't coming on at all even in the off position. But the led was good. I'm thinking it's the clock spring Or the seatbelt sensor thing. Is there a way to test each one? The lights and cruise control still work on the steering wheel so I'm thinking the seat belt sensor. Can I bypass that seatbelt thing to test it by just jumping them?
You need to get the codes scanned to know for sure. There are several possibilities, one of which is a bad crash sensor. Either the dealer can scan or a friend with a Ford-specific scanner like Auto Enginuity. Where are you located?
I meant the RCM, it has the crash sensor / inertial sensor built in.
It could be a bad RCM, or a bad power/ground to it. If the clockspring or any restraint devices or the dash switch were bad it would flash a code when you first key it on.
If it's the clockspring, it will flash a code for the driver's airbag circuit being open. For the seat belt, there is a pre-tensioner that the RCM controls. The RCM doesn't care about the buckle sensor.
Is it supposed to have it's own dedicated ground on the tranny hump? I have the floor ripped out and I'm looking around and I found a ground that has been cut on the passenger side under the mat
Same bundle as the seat belt sensor, the extended cab pretensioners are in the buckle.
But... If it was a pretensioner, or an air bag, you would get a flashing code. A solid light with no flashing means a problem with the RCM. You need to get it scanned to know for sure, otherwise you'll waste a lot of time and not get anywhere.
