So this whole thing started as a head gasket job. The truck had not performed that great before (horrible acceleration, horrible gas mileage). So I already have most of the top of the engine off. I cleaned all the sludge out of the upper intake and will be cleaning all the parts coming out and bought a new EGR and pipes. I'm wondering if I should go further and go all in with a full rebuild. My concern is the cost and I don't have an engine lift/stand or someone who can show me. I have a Haynes book but I'm nervous about breaking something, especially the fuel rail/ injectors. I have never rebuilt an engine before nor even gone as far as a head gasket before. Should I go for it?
I would definantly clean the parts well....You'll be suprised at the difference it'll make once the engine is running again....
I personally, dont think the full monty of a rebuild is in order....
just get new gaskets (Intake, heads, etc...)..And clean the heads REALLY well....Hell, since you're already gonna have'm off, might as well port them a smidge....just to take the hump out the ports...
