does exhaust length matter?

when running true duals on engines does the exhaust length have any effect on performance or mpg? i was thinking about long tubes with true duals and turn downs right where my ext cab stops and my bed starts? what would the difference between that and running them all the way back be? i know its going to be louder in the cab probably?

Mine end at the end of the cab , the shorter the better , ....with all the bends in the tail pipes don't help any , mines not load in the cab....

I removed the front tank , so my exhaust just runs straight back with turn downs at the end of the cab , simple with no turns....
