we just did a $1,000 tune up, also replaced fuel filter, and I am at my wits end don't want to keep replacing expensive parts without finding problem. truck runs great when cold once hot sputters and chokes no power please help
What kind of vehicle, engine, year model, etc.? Your profile says 1990 F-350 but the thread title says E-350. I'll try to point your thread in the right direction if you can provide some additional info.
What diagnosis are you working from exactly? I'd work to find the cause of this problem instead of throwing expensive parts/labor at it------you mention that yourself in fact.
Has anyone done a ECM scan for you? What exactly was included in your $1.000 tune up?
Chances are this is something easily fixed but without knowing exactly what its a guessing game with your wallet a victim!
The tune up consisted of new coil things and wires a friend did it so I know we were not ripped off the parts were the expensive part, not the labor!! It was put on a diag machine and it had a misfire on cylinder 1 so we had the tune up done it was time anyway.
Well, the 5.4L has no plug wires, so that is a problem right there.
You need to check the compression to make sure you don't have a dead cylinder.
You also need to check the fuel pressure cold and when it is acting up.
What brand and type of plugs did you use?
Motorcraft double platinums (which you should have used) are about $4.50 each.
Coils run about $42 each.
That's about $375. not sure how you spent $1000 on a tune up.
Turns out the mechanic we used (and I use the term loosely) DID NOT!! change our coils only the two in front thatw e could see!! Wetook it to a professional and he said the #2 cylinder was misfiring he changed the plug and coil and the truck runs excellent. Other person swears he did the complete tuneup but the coils were original ford number!! Go figure we think he changed the plugs but not the coils.
Thnak you for trying to help unfortunately I was not given the correct info from the get go.
