2002 EXPLORER 4X4 NOT WORKING

2002 EXPLORER 4X4 NOT WORKING
I have the chance to purchase a 2002 Eddie Bauer V8 Explorer with extremely low miles, the only real problem is the 4x4 doesn't work. The buttons on the dash for the 4x4 are not lit and before I start replacing stuff I thought I'd ask for some clues as to where to start diagnosing this problem before I make an offer. I was told that the module behind the glove box is probably bad and needs to be replaced, but i'd like to confirm this. Any help finding this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
