I am collecting parts for the V/B upgrade. I have already found some V springs off a 2004 F250 with reasonable mileage from a salvage yard and have them in my garage.
I just found a set of B springs off a 1999 F350 locally. They guy says that they are in Like New condition since he put a lift on his truck shortly after purchasing it over 10 years ago. They have been in his shed since then. They still are painted with no rust. He mentioned that his overload leaf was taken off and put on with his lift kit and is currently on his truck so I cant have them. Do I need them?
If he's talking about the TOP overload leaves thats cool because you would have to take them off to prevent damage to your rear A/C lines. (And the Ex's don't have the landing pads for them.) The Superduties also have a bottom "overload" leaf that is very thick and flat, it distributes the load out across the spring pack when loaded, that one you will want for your Ex.

Thanks for the response. It sounds like the bottom heavy leaf is missing. Anyone know if I can use the existing heavy leaf off the Ex?
I assume that Ford only sells the entire spring.
The bottom leaf on your Ex's pack is actually a "slapper type traction bar". It is a front half only leaf with a rubber snubber that rides up against the front of the pack by the forward mount, it serves to control (somewhat) axle wrap, thats the upward rotation of the rear axle while under accelleration. The bottom thick flat leaf on the superduties is there to distribute the load across a longer arc of the rear springs when carrying a heavy load. Different animals entirely. I have not seen where anyone has done the B code swap and kept the slapper bar in the mix as anything but a spacer for the additional 1/2" lift, I don't think the B codes need the slapper bar crutch like the wimpy stockers do. I would keep looking around for a complete B code set or shop around at some dealers, make sure you get a discounted price! My local stealership wouldn't play ball, so I had a mechanic friend order my parts using his 25% shop discount from the same dealer. Good luck!
