Mine is holding up just fine, however, it's really hard to keep clean. Even the slightest amount of moisture dulls its finish. Same for the front grille. Oh well, still love my truck though.

I believe it's just your truck trying to shed itself of that insert...lol. I've seen a lot of chatter about it previously, so you're not alone.

Does anyone know the process for removing it? Not sure how difficult it would be. I presume it's on there with adhesive strips. Wondering if there's a safe way to remove it without damaging the panel or scratching the tailgate.

I haven't done it for the Platinum trim, but a technique I've used before for such things is dental floss. It won't scratch the paint but you can work it between the surface and the piece and slowly cut the tape. It would take a while for the platinum trim, however.

A hair dryer is another thing to try, but be very careful how hot you get things...

Ford has a TSB out on this problem. TSB 11-4-11. It gives full details on how to remove and reattach it. I have it in pdf form. If you pm me your email I can email it out to you. I can't see anyway to attach it here. Maybe I am to much of a noob. LOL

looking

I just went to look at it at a dealership in san antonio and I had noticed 2 on the lot that was coming off. So it seems fairly common.

If the dealer follows the repair procedure in the TSB 11-4-11 it will come out good Im happy with my repair and I was the first F150 they did
