Just noticed that the tailgate trim on my 2011 platinum is coming off did a search and it appears that this happened to some in 2009 anybody else having issues on their new trucks
Mine is holding up just fine, however, it's really hard to keep clean. Even the slightest amount of moisture dulls its finish. Same for the front grille. Oh well, still love my truck though.
Does anyone know the process for removing it? Not sure how difficult it would be. I presume it's on there with adhesive strips. Wondering if there's a safe way to remove it without damaging the panel or scratching the tailgate.
I haven't done it for the Platinum trim, but a technique I've used before for such things is dental floss. It won't scratch the paint but you can work it between the surface and the piece and slowly cut the tape. It would take a while for the platinum trim, however.
A hair dryer is another thing to try, but be very careful how hot you get things...
Ford has a TSB out on this problem. TSB 11-4-11. It gives full details on how to remove and reattach it. I have it in pdf form. If you pm me your email I can email it out to you. I can't see anyway to attach it here. Maybe I am to much of a noob. LOL
it was the first one my dealer had fixed they got to practice on mine but it came out good it was an all day fix but Ford provided all of the necessary items to get the job done soon after they had a flex with the same problem
