I have developed a shake/jitter when I am not accelerating. I have no shakes when I am accelerating or at a constant sped but as soon as I let off the accelerator it starts to shake. I know you might thing rotors but I am not applying the brakes and the steering wheel doesn't shake and I can not feel it in the pedals. It does this in every gear when downshifting as well as in neutral. It does seem like it is speed related Any Ideas? Maybe something to do with the rear end?? What would cause this?
I had more of a rrrrr noise when my carrier bearing went, no shaking though. Easy check while your under there checking the joints, just wiggle the shaft back and forth to see how much play. PaysonPSD Robin suggested after driving the truck get under their and feel the bearing, if its excessively hot, its shot..
I will check the U-joints tomorrow and take a look at the carrier bearing. The carrier bearing is the bearing just inside the differential right? Where the driveshaft goes in, just behind the pinion seal, Right?
Carrier bearing is in the middle of the drive shaft, it is a 2 piece shaft. I would also look at greasing your slip joint, normally its a popping sound between acceleration and deceleration, but if it is really dry, might just need some grease.
Alright I finally got around to taking a look at the Ujoint and it turns out that is what the problem was, changed it and no more vibration. I figuered while I was at it I might as well make a weekend of it so I changed my little brothers (jt's f250) ujoint in his 99 as well. I found out that I do not have a carrier (center support) bearing in my truck because it is a supercab short bed.
