2011 f-150 towing

I currently tow a 7000 lbs trailer with a 2003 expedition 5.4 373 rear, when ever i tow i always turn the overdrive off , i recently purchased a 2011 f-150 with the new ecoboost motor and a 373 rear 6 speed trans should i continue to turn off the overdrive even on the new truck it does have more HP and torque then the 5.4 but not sure with the 6 speed trans what to do.
Thanks Scott

Did you read the owner's manual? It tells you what to do, and what it can do. When to use tow/haul mode and when to lock out gears if needed. There is no O/D off button like what you are used to. Your new truck is better in every way. Enjoy, but go read the manual.

I see, no worries there. You are asking in anticipation and I get that. Your new truck is a 6spd. The shifter has a up/down switch and you can lock gears out if needed, and even shift manually. The tow/haul mode is awesome, and unless you are on very steep, hilly terrain you will most likely never need to lock out a gear until you find it keeps downshifting and upshifting excessively. Just hit the tow mode and go. You can tow in 6th gear with no problem, unlike a lot of the older transmissions that suggest O/D is turned off.

I agree just hit the tow/haul button and the truck will do the rest. Congrats and enjoy the new truck!

I have been loving the tow/haul button so far and I haven't even been towing yet. I have been taking Saturday drives to get some miles on the motor before I start dragging my 8000lb TT around. During these drive I have been hitting some winding mountain roads and I have been using the tow/haul mode on the way down to help me keep off the breaks and I'm very pleased with the way it performs empty. Can't wait to see how she works with my TT hooked up.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Using T/H without towing or hauling will reduce your economy, FYI. In addition to the engine braking, it keeps the rpms up and delays shifts. You might want to consider just manually downshifting on the those downhill grades instead.

I drug 8600 lbs on I-285 in ATL last year with an EB in just drive. Up hill and down, it performed flawlessly.

You can even set the gears you want the truck to use. 1-2-3-4-5; 1-2-3; 1-2-3-4; 1-2, however you choose.
