Ok, after removing the front clip and bed off my 1989 F250 4x4 this weekend I found a frame thats less than par. Its rusted through in a lot of bearing points and weak in many more. SOOO, I want to replace it. Is there any place I could buy either a new replacement or a heavy duty square tube frame? I'm tired of dealing with the old ones.
I know that they make frames for classic pickups (like 50's styles), but don't know about anything newer. Perhaps a hot rod shop would know which companies might make them? Your best bet may just be to find one that's in good shape. I have a feeling a pickup with a good frame would be a cheaper buy/swap than a new frame from a shop, but I could be wrong.
I would say that even here in Iowa, my truck frame is in really good condition. While there is definitely it's fair share of surface rust, I haven't found any parts of my frame that were particularly worrying. The spring hangers and just about anything bolted onto the frame is a completely different story however.
Anyway, back to the topic at hand, I'd say no, nobody makes an aftermarket/new frame for these trucks, but even a rusty ones should be pretty easy to patch up, box, and add support to (assuming you have the space and the time) since it will provide a better basis to work off of than you'll probably ever get from an aftermarket source even if one did exist.
