My dark green Ex has the tan running boards. I want black ones. Has anyone ever covered them with spary on bedliner with any luck? I am guessing that would hold up much better than paint. How would it adhere to the palstic or would it at all?
There is no way I could remove mine right now. Grandma lives with us and we she needs them. I may try spraying the tan piece on the back bumper first and see how that goes. Thats the first I heard of someone sayng it could work, thanks.
ook. the back bumper cover is also on the list to spray as well... i want to black it out. When you do so.. u should post pics on how it looks.
Question. The bumper portion is chrome on mine.. do you know if the Super duty trucks use the same bumper.. im tryin to locate an already painted one. If its only exclusive to the Ex than im SOL...
My brother just went with a new black one on the bumper, not too sure about the liner option, but he was told there really isn't a good way to paint the plastics as over time and vibrations, it'll just peel and scratch off. He was also told the best way to do the running boards would be to get them dyed. He is kind of in the process of getting that done. If he reads this he should chime in.
Too bad you didn't bring this up a couple months ago. I just got done taking 2 perfectly good ones to the dump after I took them off! You could of paid shipping and had them
Figures David. I have been worring about getting it running right lately. Actually doing ball joints this weekend, then an injector. More have to pop up sometime.
My front bumper is painted green also. I had the front piece replaced with a black one already while it was getting a new bumper due to an F150 wanting my wife's lane while she was still using it. After seeing how much nicer the black looks, I want to get rid of all the tan.
Correction on my post, it is actually called vinyl dyed. They should be done in a couple of days, the guy doing it was pretty busy. When he gets them back, I'll take some pics.

I would have loved to have them!! Anybody else have a tan driver's side running board? My passenger side one is fine, but the metal base on the driver's side has rusted away.....

Looks like we have identical twin trucks.. my driver board was the same so i threw them in the backyard. Removing that one took 45 mins because each clip was rusted and broke.. the passenger took 5 mins.
I'm guessing the driver door welds at the bottom are rusty as well?
I dyed my rear bumper step pad, it's been a year and has held up great, through winter and car washes. I used SEM vinyl dye, make sure you also buy the adhesion promoter. SEM dye sprays easily and is UV safe. I would think this dye would work just as well on the step bars. HTH
