I would like to replace the speedometer on a 83 F250, with 351w,and np435 trans. The current speedometer does not have the resetable tripometer. The new one will have the tripometer. The question I have is: Will I have to replace the circut bord behind the gauage cluster? or anything else, or is it a plug and play deal? Any help would be apperacited. Thanks in advance.
If you're just changing the speedo head, no need to worry about the circuit board. Of course, the clear plastic lens will need to be swapped....
If you are changing the entire cluster assembly, then the circuit board will need looked at. Red circuit is 81-86, green is 1980 only. As long as the color matchs your current one, you're good to go.
Thanks for the info. Do I have to replace the clear lens? I thought I could just drill a hole in the old lens for the tripmeter button, or is there a reason I wouldn't want to try that??
I suppose you could drill a hole for the reset button. Would hate to miss though......
I thought the button was actually part of the lens, not the speedo head itself?
When I did this, I swapped the whole cluster, since it also had a factory tach. Of course, mine is an 80, and the donor was an 85. Made for a bit of a learning curve.....
I can second Rogue Wulff on that the button is indeed part or the lens itself. I just
recently aquired a nice cluster that has a factory tach and trip odometer for my 1981.
Rogue I will have some questions for you and the other gurus on hooking up this factory
tach soon, as it is different than normal.
I was not aware. I guess you really do learn something new everyday! I guess the hunt for the right lens is next on my to do list. Thanks, I really appericate the help from all you guys!
Finding the correct lens may be tougher than I first thought. I have found the lens w/o tripometer in a few different places, but no luck finding one with the tripometer. Anybody have one they want to sell, or know where I could buy one?? Thanks
I checked mine and it doesn't have a trip meter, however I am going to my local pick-a-part sunday, I can pick you up a whole assembly for $20. thats what they charged me for the one I picked up. I also need to know what kind of tranny you have and if you have gauges or idiot lights.
